If they stick to the Vietnam War style gallows/dark humour...and manage to deliver it, it'll be fine I reckon. I can look past the predators wearing pants business as long as there is fresh and interesting story.
Chris agreed about the genetic splicing thing though. No need to muddy the waters with concepts like that. Predator already has a good premise, they just need to expand it, not change it up.

I think the comedic factor will be similar to the original, with cheesey one-liners and crude humor, which i am all for. Every Predator film has utilized humore in some capacity.
In regards to the reinventing of the mythology. I do have concerns as well. I really really hope they don't scrap what made the Predator so iconic and unique. The genetic splicing angle is a stretch and kind of cliche with regards to alien films. Leave the Predators be as hunters which adhere to a specific and unique code of ethics. Like you guys said, there is plenty to expand upon, Hollywood has barely scratched the surface of this franchise, but I hope they don't ruin its further potential by going too far left field with this one.

From what I've read about what surfaced on the plot of the new movie it's hot trash. It's just Shane black needing to re-invent the franchise and creature similar to the Mandarins treatment in Iron-man 3. There isn't a need to can the mythology of these aliens trophy hunting in favor for hunting for "better genetics". The Mythology needed expansion absolutely not re-invention.

Not surprised. Everything about this movie looked awful. It's been a long time since we got a decent Predator movie and I don't think we will ever see another good one.
I was excited before but this really worries me. Like really.

Edward James Olmos is a class actor. If he says its good I trust him.
Predator is the type of franchise that could benefit from some gallows/black humour, but it would have to be delivered well and convincingly. Tom Jane is excellent at black humour at the very least....
Predator_Spirit strongly disagree sorry. The 'good old formula' is what is keeping this franchise back. Time for something new, and a shake up of the universe.
This film may or may not not be it, but it will hopefully open the door for some new ideas and fresh ground to be covered. Not just a bunch of badasses and a predator hunting them in a different location each time.
Thomas Jane forgot to say he teams up with friendly preds....Wich is an unforgivable fail.We need the good old formula which made the predator franchise great in the first place, a bunch of real badasses and a good old predator hunting them for sport.Not a bunch of badasses wannabe and a kid...

I am worried...but gritting-my-teeth, clenched-fist optimistic that this will be the expansive and progressive film this franchise needs. Not to mention a classic Sci-fi film that finally hits the mark today, after the several recent misfires you mention above.

Shane did it in his script, there is a reference to the movie Predators when there is a backstory about the giant predator hybrids, the draft references the movie "Predators" because in both movies it's a cold war between predators.
Hopefully this will be in 3D, I generally find it can turn a good movie into a great movie - especially within the sci-fi genre.
I would've prefered that they got the movie right rather than the poster ...
.... It was literally published through the official app by Fox. I got the youtube link and snapped a still of it myself.
Speaking as the sites Graphic Designer my instinct says that this is fake. Too much time has passed since the release of the still poster for the possibility of this animated poster to not be fake. The only cause for pause is the fact that it has been released via Fox Digital Entertainment which instead makes this a pretty damn lazy attempt at marketing that any fan could have created in the interim period since the posters initial release.
It might turn out to be a good movie. Shane Black is always an interesting writer/director. I hope I get to see a pre-screening of this!

This sounds pretty good. The first movie was outstanding. Honestly, I found the others quite boring and forgettable. A return to the roots sounds great. Having Dutch in there would be welcome even if it is a minor thing or something similar to Weaver's presence in Paul.
If true, and done well, that plot sounds ok tbh. Its at least more expansive and progressive then the previous films, and it could finally lead to some global conflict between humanity and the Yautja.
Every other predator film adaptation (including the crappy AVP's) have the same old.... Yautja come to Earth to hunt, because that's what they do. The End. Or...big Twist. they are being hunted on a game world instead.
This franchise has always been stunted by lack of progression. Yes this film appears to be a reboot, but it also looks to tie-up all the films and expand the predator franchise. Perhaps after this film humanity may have an opportunity to stick it to the Yautja, and we might finally get to see and explore their homeworld (hopefully not called the cringe-worthy Yautja-Prime) XD
Im not advocating that we put on our rose-tinted glasses and "blind sheep and say "it's shane black so it's gonna rock" as you say, but lets at least wait and see the film before condemning it.

Predator_Spirit with respect, Jake Busey has been cast to play the son of Peter Keyes (portrayed by his own father Gary Busey) from Predator 2. His character has been quoted as the connective tissue between The Predator and previous Predator films, namely Predator 2.
Also, we know literally nothing about the script as of yet, they have kept it very much under wraps. All we have is a vague synopsis, a few leaked silly images, and one or 2 official cast promo shots.
Trying to not make the same mistakes as they did with Alien Covenant perhaps.

This movie is basically a reboot diguised as a sequel.At one point the girl talks about the 1987 cia file and that's it.It's a reboot because they change the established background of the first two movie.SPOILER*******************************************
the predators are divided in two sides, the regular preds and the hybrids.The hybrids steal human dna to evolve and ultimately replace the humans on earth, because their homeplanet is becoming colder and they will have to leave, our planet is interesting due to global warming.The other preds want to save the human species from the hybrids.So when the predators took skulls and spinal cords it wasn't to take a trophy but to steal the dna of the best of our species.So it's basically another pred/human team up against a new "super predator" a la Rodriguez.I used to respect Shane Black a lot but he really screwed with this one, as much as I like him, I can't be a blind sheep and say "it's shane black so it's gonna rock".Wrong it's gonna suck.

Yeah, I assume that's their approach. They've kept everything very hush hush. Although, I really do like this piece. I think using the lightening was a great idea. Very reminiscent of Predator 2.

It suggests old school with the helicopter from the original. I like it. I was not a fan of the city setting of P2.
