My two cents...
Humans using Predator tech - wasn't that in AVPR
Humans teaming up with Predators - wasn't that in AVP
Super Predators vs classic Predators - wasn't that in Predators
A Predator movie set in suburbia - wasn't that in AVPR
A kid helps unlock the technology for the protagonist - er, Iron Man 3
While I love Shane Black's character of Pvt Hawkins in Predator and his work on the Lethal Weapon series and TV show, what we know of this movie seems very, very unoriginal. Together with the fact that Fred Dekker has co-written this (we wrote and directed RoboCop 3) makes me shudder.
Predators are attracted to heat and conflict so why not have a movie set in Vietnam War, Middle Ages Europe, Middle East, Africa, Bosnia, American Civil War or World War II, instead of goddamn suburbia again (coz it really worked last time didn't it).
And Yes Stan Winston (deceased), Predators commit suicide if defeated, as shown by the classic 'Anytime' jungle Predator from the first movie.
I have said it before and I'll say it again; feck the Avatars, James Cameron should do a Predator movie with Michael Biehn starring.
also, i saw some on set images images that showed what looked like 2 predators in the back of a tank partying. hopfully this was just the cast in there predator costumes inbetween shots or we are in for a very wierd movie.
there is just so much cool content for the predator universe, I find it sad that the ideas for the new films seem so plain. a bit lke iraptus said earlier, if you want to get a great predator movie plot, just read the dark horse comics and adapt some of them.
Excellent news! Really looking forward to this trailer.
Agreed, there is so much more that could be explored with this franchise. I don't mind the thought of the Predators wishing to take over Earth eventually, nor do I mind the genetic hybrid angle. My main concerns lie with the emphasis on the kid being a major player in the film's development and Predators helping Humanity. The AvP films showed us that kind of collaboration gets boring. The Predators view themselves as a superior species to Mankind so I don't see why they would bother themselves with our well-being.
I'm remaining cautiously optimistic. A trailer will really help to iron out expectations I feel.
I dint know but the plot sounds cheesy.
Im choosing to embrace this as a good thing. The Predator franchise needs something fresh and revitalising, not re-hashing the same tried premise over and over again.
Don't get me wrong I love all 3 of the Predator films but there is so much more that could be explored than just game-hunting Yautja.
Good on Shane Black for taking a risk, I just hope its not too silly.

EdgarRgzFilmmaker this looks fantastic. Have you got any more details on it you wish to share, so that we could feature it for you?
These are amazing!!
Splendid artworks. The first one is my favorite.
Thanks for sharing.
How can it be a direct sequel if Arnold isn't in it?
High Profile Female Gurgaon Call Girls
@ Dr. Curt Connors
I agree with you on "covenant", but Prometheus wasn't that bad.
Gavin I agree the premise seems a little flat and I would love if Black would come out and give us something, anything to ease the doubt. There is nothing but silence and that stupid image of the predators riding in a tank giving peace signs.
Is their silence over-confidence and smug arrogance, or do they have a massive ace up their sleeve that we don't know know about?
This is an already disillusioned fanbase forced to endure 2 popcorn AVP films and a re-booted carbon copy of the first film. I enjoyed Predators but it offered the same old Predator premise with a few new toys and gadgets. If Black/Dekker say they have something expansive and mind-blowing, give us something to get excited about lol
ps. I forgot Thomas Jane! Great actor, i hope they use him well
@ BD & IR,
I agree, I wholeheartedly do, and that nagging little voice that keeps saying this movie will fail; I do hope this movie proves it wrong.
But (time to go a bit BigDave here),
Virtually every bit of news just adds to the worry. Yeah, Black is responsible for one of my most favorite series; Lethal Weapon, but beyond that, his filmography isn't exactly amazing. Iron Man 3 made a ton at the box office and Guy Pearce and Ben Kingsley turned in good performances but the whole movie felt underwhelmingly flat.
Busey, Olmos, Strahovski were good picks, Munn and Key weren't, whereas Holdbrook shouldn't be lead over Jane. But, one question - why did no-one cast Michael Biehn.
Worst of all is the premise. We could have gone to desert, Vietnam War, Bosnian War, the Dark Ages (a la the Fan Film), in the 17th-18th century to explain the 1715 Flintlock pistol, or as I saw on YouTube; have Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson be a stowaway on a Predator ship and have him sneaking around their homeworld. Instead, Black and Dekker (Monster Squad and Robocop 3; shudder) offer us suburbia, with a string of recycled ideas.
In all honesty, Covenant sounds better on paper than this does, hence the difficulty in trying to remain optimistic.
I think someone needs to something new and bold with this franchise, and hopefully Black and Dekker are the men to do it. The Yautja are an interesting race but the previous films (including the AVPs) just re-hash the same old premise, time and again.
Perhaps Blacks gritty, black humour lends itself well to the franchise.
I guess we need to keep a open mind and give the movie a chance, i think FOX have to hope this is a success because right now the Alien Franchise has been effected by disappointments.
If this movie follows suit then it may not be good new for FOX and its TWO Blockbuster Sci-Fi Franchises.
Mind you i feel the Predator Franchise can have some leeway, because Predator 2 was not exactly a great movie, and Predators likewise was not very good but far from Poor though.
I hope The Predator does well, and i hope people dont try and compare it to the First Movie because they may be disappointed as Predator was a Classic Blockbuster and really raised the Bar Very High
I just keep going back to Shane Black's original statement that he wants to expand and shake-up the Predator universe.
He was in the original film, knows how much of a classic it is. Need to trust he can pull this off!!
The last 3 cast added Busey, Olmos, Strahovski were good picks
My hype for this movie keeps going down.
The only pro is they have a great director maybe just maybe he can pull something out of this.
This has fail all over it ugh
Gonna give Black the benefit of the doubt that it will be solid. Olivia will not disappoint imo.
Shane Black has never written or directed a bad movie like cough Ridley Scott cough. This will not be a complete clusterf**k like Covenant or Prometheus have been.
I kinda didn't get this, if it's a reboot then it might be bad idea.
It will be interesting to see where this goes, i am a bit concerned at the Moment, so there is going to be some Humor? I hope its not over the top.
And the Female Character fighting with Predators, i really hope this does not diminish the Predator Race to the Level that Aliens and AVP movies did with the Xenomorph
FOX need to get this right, because if not... then i wonder what this spells for the Franchise, as well Alien Covenant did not get too well received and i feel if THE PREDATOR and ALIEN AWAKENING both disappoint like Alien Covenant did, then where does this leave the Franchises?
Hopefully not a desperate Cash Grab.. AVP3
It's been confirmed that it's a sequel.
This film has my interest more and more everyday!
Agreed, I'm very much looking forward to Jake's role. I love these subtle connections to previous films.
Now that is awesome!
It would have been disappointing if he didn't...
Shane Black is our man!
P2 was not a direct sequel where as shane black has stated the predator will be a direct sequel to predator.
Hopefully its not the cast driving around in a tank for 2 hours, because that's literally about all we've seen so far.
It is wrapped... so soon? Considering the practical effects, I have a feeling they are going to dump some time and CG Digital down on it?
It just seems so soon. Kinda worried.
