That dog scene looks wicked and dark!
G. H. (Gman) yeah, Alien Covenant made 2.5x its budget and the expected sequel is in limbo. Maybe it is important to not divide/generate hate from the fandom...
Remember, in order for the film to just break even it needs to make 2-2.5x its budget worldwide. It's not as simple as merely making up what the movie cost. It'd be nice to have a number to root for. If the movie did cost $70 million it's got to haul in $140-175 million before the studio considers it a success.
Love the engagement on the forums Wwarez, but I'm noticing in every post you make you embed links to your AvPCentral website. Which is cool, but the manner in which you're posting is coming off a bit like spam. This is why we allow for links in your signature, which you also have set to your site.
We're all for encouraging growth in the community and I really dig your site! I just ask that you try not to make every post here an advert for your site. A link to AvPCentral will already be shown on every post you make anyways. :)
There are rumors there are some, but if so i think it could be Easter Eggs. But anyone expecting any of the Lead from any of the Previous Movies could be Disappointed.
I think it would likely be someone only Real Deep Predator Fans would Recognize of the Bat... maybe they would be in costume/makeup that would hide who they are so you dont get a CLEAR view of who they are, and make you think "hang on they looked familiar" where either the next Cameo by then, or 2nd time you see the Movie you would be like "i thought so/i knew it was"
I do think they will be pulling out a number of other Easter Eggs, and so i think we will see some One Liners from DUTCH (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and also HAWKINGS (Shane Black)
such as maybe when one of the Cast see the Big Mutha Predator we could see the Hawkings Line in his Joke changes she to he/it "its as BIG as a House" i wonder if anyone will refer to the Big Mutha as a Sexual Tyrannosaurus?
Surely the "Stick Around" One Liner will make it, and the "One Ugly Mutha £$"£%"
I dont think the Predator Franchise has had as big a Disappointment in Terms of expectations on them, compared to what they delivered, be that Box Office $$$ and Critics :) :(
I dont think the Predator Franchise has suffered as much degradation with the AVP Movies as the Xenomorphs/Alien had.
So i think this has the potential to make Money, i think any opening Weekend and Week, when compared to Budget, i think this Movie should do FINE.
Looking at the Cast, and how its much easier to Portray a Predator on Screen as far as Special Effects and Budget
Predators took just SHY of $25M on its opening weekend and so made back about 60% of its Budget. $40M
I expect The Predator to do just as well (plus inflation) and so i could expect about that $28-30M Mark. As for the Budget, we cant be sure but i would expect it would be around $60-70M Mark
You can rule out Danny Glover since he is too old for this shit.
I would think ticket preorders would count as long as they are ordered for one of those days.
ignorantGuy
"Do they already know exactly in which theaters will it open?"
Yes. Long since been a done deal.
Membrane Of course using some statistical model, but it probably takes into account other movies in the same genre, the month of the year, maybe competition. Ticket pre-orders might play a factor, but I don't think is really that relevant. Do they already know exactly in which theaters will it open?
If they can really get audiences into this through the development of the humans characters and they haven't shown everything on The Ultimate Predator, (and other "standards" like a balance of good action and story), I imagine this should do what they are tracking/projecting.
Honestly though, how in the world do they track/project an opening weekend? Ticket sales so far and some statistical analysis? I always wondered about the people who are definitely going to see this, but haven't purchased tickets yet... how would they be factored in.
I'll believe when i see it
ignorantGuy I have no proof but I think Predator will crush Predators. The re shoots only took a couple days from what I read. It might cost a few bucks if there is a high profile cameo. The international market is another consideration as well like you stated. I would imagine a respectful showing based on the name alone.
Movies like this never seem to be huge money makers, but I think this one will do better than most. I cannot prove it but I just think there is a demand for something like this and fans will latch on to it.
Some may argue that the first pic is Billy, but there is no head band. The last we saw of him was this:

G. H. (Gman) Also in China, it will hurt that there is no big Hollywood name in it. For example, the Meg made 120 mil there because of Statham...
G. H. (Gman) well the more interesting question would be how does this fare in China? Will it be shown in cinemas there?
This movie is more hyped than Predators and it only is expected to make 30 mil? The last one made 24 (27 if we adjust with inflation) in it's opening weekend. Judging by the trailers and the several re-shoots I would not be surprised that this would have costed 70+ million, but it could make 3 times it's cost world wide being a minor success.
Good question G. H. (Gman) . It seems noteworthy that we have not seen tons of trailers like with AC, thus keeping costs down. I get the feeling somehow that Shane Black is doing things right- fairly quiet yet giving just enough to pique interest.
But what's the budget? Is that a large enough opening to make back its expenses?
Yes, I'm feelin' it!
question wtf is that predator dog thing?
Great stuff! I'll share this up, thanks for sharing!
Great link Wwarez, that is a nice inventory of Predator weaponry. Yes, you're correct, the Predator's are a bit sloppy as far as evidence in the following films.
AVPR tried to address this with the Predator and his blue cleaning fluid but other parts of the movie were so bad that it is hard to bring up the reference.
Project Stargazer now faces this, below.

Good luck.
Ingeniero That zoom in reminds me a lot of a zoom in of the AC Xeno spine- you may have posted it. Interesting.
The expanded spear-like weapon the Predator uses is called the "Combistick", page 122 of the prequel novel. And the bladed-disk thrown by the Predator is controlled by the mask worn by the alien.
I'm still impressed with the city hunter.

King Willie was most likely very impressed.

Here is a zoom of the back of the larger Predator, below.

In the prequel novel, Pappy Elliot interviews those that have encountered a Predator and lived.
I believe we have a great chance at Danny Glover because Los Angeles is mentioned repeatedly in the book and the characters are related to those that worked with Lieutenant Mike Harrigan. I kind of just factored in that Arnold would be in it.
Certainly having Cells become Harder as some kind of Armour is very interesting. ;) Who knows it could be Both... if this is a Genetically Enhanced Predator where it has taken Traits from Many Organisms then anything is possible.
As long as it does-not sprout Wings and Fly ;)
Can this be meant not for cloaking a form of skin hardening?
I think while this movie seems to touch upon Genetic Altering/Evolution and so taking Traits from a Chameleon fits well within this context.
I think it may be a nice change, but i still think the Predators Technological Cloak is better. I guess if Predators can combined a Genetic Cloaking Method with the Technology then this would be a great advantage especially as they would have some Cloaking Ability in Water now. (Chameleon Trait)
ignorantGuy ha ha! Nice one XD
Sorry to say it but this reminds me of the rage-inducing John Connor-inator:

That GIF is much better, thank you! I've added it to the OP.
In this other spot released by the official Italian 20th Century Fox YouTube channel (start at second 19), you can better see the skin changing.
I also created a gif:

I watched this for a while and do not see the change.
