IMO there is a whole universe to explore with the Yautja on film.. someone just needs to take the risk and move away from the usual Hunt-on-earth premise and re-boots. The books and comics having been doing it well for decades. Really well!
But it would likely require substantial risk and outlay to do and most casual sci-fi fans and Predator fanboys just want to indulge in some predictable spine-ripping, shoulder blasting Predator action.

I feel like the predator franchise is totally cooked at this point. What more can they do? There is no mystery or real story-line left to explore.

One things for sure. Without Alan Silvestri behind the music for this movie, you'll never have a true Predator Flic. Essential ingredient. The soundtrack behind the original predator movie was all-time. Pred 2 also.

Behind the scenes, the "Mandibles" were actually the idea of Terminator and Avatar creator/director James Cameron. Cameron was sat on a plane with legendary creature effects maestro Stan Winston when Winston was sketching designs for the first movie (a Rastafarian-esque, tribal hunter) after it was decided to redesign the antagonist of the movie. Cameron related he had always wanted to see something with Mandibles and thus Winston added them to his design.
Yes, it could very well be a courtship thing. But females have the fangs too. Maybe it is about how one carries him/herself?

I think you hit pay dirt here BigDave! Top shelf fan fiction here. Thanks for sharing! This is really good and makes me wonder if more Predator Universe stuff is out there. Things like this are perfect to build enthusiasm for the new movie without a bunch of revealing trailers.

This is an excellent fanshot short film! It has a decent cult following and was the result of a community crowd-funded event, something similar to what dk was trying to organise last year with the group video submissions.

I think i will have to invest into looking at/reading some Novels, may as-well while i dont really SLEEP lol so maybe those Prey and War Novels are worth checking out.
I am smelling the Female Protagonist is lead to think Predators are coming here to Genetically Evolve themselves, but she latter finds out actually its the Company that is Genetically Engineering the Predator DNA.
Maybe the Predators could be trying to Harness our DNA and the Company then think... Actually we should Genetically Mess about and Create our own Predator.
Appears to me we see those Soldiers suffering from PTSD are ambushed because those Predators are after ONE Guy in Particular, i have a feeling these Predators... or another two latter, will team up with these guys to put a Stop to the Military Company using/reverse Engineering Predator Tech... then they unleash their Frankenstein on those guys and Predators.
BigDave funny how things are added with no real purpose other than to look cool... then its left to the next content creators to flesh out, or fans to theorise on :)
ali81 is on the mark, they are depicted as sexual selection traits in some of the novels; Perry's Prey and War novels at the least.
Perhaps if Tiwaz is about he can confirm if this was addressed in Lebbon's Rage War trilogy....I can't remember lol
BigDave It sounds like this Predator is not a complete surprise to something like a research company. It seems possible there could be a Frankenstein's monster angle to it.

So we could see a Predator Siding with some Humans vs Corporate/Military Scientific kind of Company... Which maybe would make sense for the Mega-Predator to be a Engineered Frankenstein of a Predator these guys would use to their own Agenda.
Looks great. Love that golden parts. I must say that this is bigger redesign than i expected. It will take time to get used to it. I am not entirely sure on that mouth golden triangle, but overall looks pretty good.

I can only assume they maybe have the same Purpose as TUSKS
But i think at INCEPTION of Concept... it was to make the Predator look Awesome and Original and so it was a Aesthetic to make the Creature Stand Out without actually having any real Purpose... We have the same with the Xenomorph and its Dorsal Pipes/Tubes.
Which because we dont have a clear Purpose... allows us to Debate such things and try and come up for a Logical Reason for them.
they don't really look like theyd be strong enough to have any use on inflicting damage so id say theyl be for courting purposes. maybe the bigger the fangs and wider they spread the more attractive a mate they make?

I will say, i think ADI's practical effects appear to have improved. The look of the unmasked 'standard' predator looks more closer to the look of the Stan Winston predator in the original. The unmasked predator in avp looked a little softer and gentle, but that was probably because it was young and an ally. The predator in avp-r looked exaggerated and almost cartoonish unmasked. It translated better in figure form than film but it looked farther away from the original unmasked face.
The closest we've gotten to the original is the classic predator in predators but even then some sort of 'edge' was missing in the design.
I like the look of the new guy and i feel confident in the look of the unmasked predator.

I like the look of the big bastard. theyv kept it simple and not gone over board by trying to make it look half man/half yautja as this is probably a man made experiment. itl be a 'company suit' and be sent out to protect the evil companies interests
